Travelling to Malaysia & Borneo (Photographer: Oliver Sjöström, https://ollivves.com)

We set off to Malaysia & Borneo last month with our families and friends to attend our friends’ wedding. With our overweight luggage in tow we landed into Kuala Lumpur.

Eating your way through the best spots in KL is no easy task, but we were set for the challenge. For some of the best Malaysian dishes try Hokkien mee, Char kway teow, Kam Heong La La, Nasi lemak, and the wholesome Roti Canai. None of these will disappoint, I can assure you!

Post wedding, we flew into Kota Kinabalu for their reception in the most idyllic setting, at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria resort. After much drinking and dancing through the night we spent the next day location scouting for the Borneo campaign shoot.

Shoot day arrived with a nice and early start at 3am. Led by our forest ranger, we trekked up through the jungle surrounding the Shangri La Rasa Ria Resort in the dark of night for 30mins to reach a treetop terrace in time for sunrise. (God knows what wildlife was around us, but ignorance is bliss). The view at the treetop was overwhelming. The campaign images taken up there are a pretty good representation, but looking around and seeing the rising sun over the beach, river and jungle, with the backdrop of Mt Kota Kinabalu in the distance has to be done in person.

After many outfit changes, travelling between locations in the hot mid-afternoon sun and a few makeup touch-ups, we were done 12 hours later. Thanks to all of the team; Lyn Averson (Photographer), Elena Cheurina (Model), Malek Mccrone (Model), Jonathan Strong (Model), and Pearl Tan (Makeup Artist) for making it such a brilliant shoot. And a huge thank you to Charlene Tan and the team at Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort for being wonderful hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed shooting and staying at the resort.
